According to the U.S. game market report published by Circana and data from the mobile game market provided by Sensor Tower, the total expenditure on U.S. video game hardware, content and accessories in July 2025 amounted to $5.1 billion, an increase of 5 per cent over the same period last year. Total expenditures to date at the beginning of the year amounted to $32.6 billion, a slight decrease of 1 per cent from the same period in 2024.

This increase was largely the result of strong performance in the field of mobile games, which increased by 7 per cent over the same period to $2.3 billion, or more than 50 per cent of total monthly game content expenditure. The strong performance of Garena ‘ s Free Fire in July contributed to an increase in video game content spending, up from the same period last year, while Nintendo Switch 2 led to an increase in hardware sales.
Total expenditures on hardware, content and accessories for video games in the United States are projected to increase by 5 per cent to $5.1 billion in July 2025. Cumulative annual expenditure now stands at $32.6 billion, down 1 per cent from the same period in 2024. Hardware expenditures increased by 21 per cent in July, to $384 million. This was the highest July expenditure since July 2008 ($441 million).
The cumulative sales of Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States now exceed 2 million, 75 per cent ahead of the sales of the original Nintendo Switch during the same life cycle. Nintendo Switch 2 is the best video game hardware sold in July and 2025 to date, with PlayStation 5 second.

The July expenditure on video game content increased by 4 per cent over the same period to $4.5 billion. The growth was driven mainly by the mobile end (7 per cent increase to $2.3 billion) and non-mobile subscription services (21 per cent increase to $500 million), which offset the 9 per cent decline in expenditure on mainframe content.

In terms of moving content, Sensor Tower reported on the top 10 games of July consumer spending in the United States and the changes in their ranking compared to June: Monopoly Go!, Royal Match, Last War: Survival, Sugar Crushing Legend, Flow Apocalypse, Free Fire (up seven), Tribal Conflict: Royal War (up two), Kingshot (up three), Dreamtown (down two) and Royal King Dom.

Sam Aune of Sensor Tower states: “July 2025 was an explosive growth month, with consumer spending in the United States increasing by 7 per cent over July 2024, with a significant change in the top ten game rankings. Most shockingly, Free Fire is in sixth place. This shooting game, which has skyrocketed United States revenues since last year, is now firmly in America’s most lucrative shotman’s seat, surpassing Mission Caller. Free Fire is currently working with the top-ranked cartoon IP, The Shinigami of Fire.”

In July, spare parts expenditures decreased by 8 per cent from the same period last year, to $187 million. Nintendo Switch 2 Pro handles became the best part of the 2025 sales in units and in United States dollars. This data highlights the dominant position of Nintendo Switch 2 in the hardware market, while the growth of mobile games and subscription services gives life to content spending.
